Summer positions

This summer, Latitude 53 is looking to fill several temporary student positions. To be eligible, students must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Latitude 53 Contemporary Visual Culture is a not-for-profit artist-run centre and registered charity that provides a forum for dialogue about contemporary art practices through exhibitions, performances, readings, publications, critical dialogue and interpretive programming. Latitude 53 creates sites for the intersection of contemporary art and ideas in Alberta with a mandate that situates Latitude 53 as Alberta’s leading contemporary art centre that:

  • Animates and promotes thought provoking local, national, and international visual art
  • Stimulates artistic research & education, audience engagement, and experimental art practices
  • Provides a supportive environment for artists taking risks

Outreach Assistant

14 Weeks, 35 Hours a week, $14.25 per hour

The Outreach Assistant will assist with the smooth execution of audience outreach and targeted programming expansion in two specific areas:

  • Signature Summer Initiatves:Coordinates community communications and outreach regarding our new summer parties including volunteer and audiences engagement.

  • Outreach Initiatives: Building better practices in expanding capacity to deepen our engagement with diverse audiences, volunteers, and member and communities including ethnocultural diverse communities, deaf and disability communities and individuals with issues of social isolation.

Engagement Assistant

14 Weeks, 35 Hours a week, $14.25 per hour

The Engagement Assistant will work to deepen members and volunteers engagement by focusing on two projects:

  • Members Engagement: Focusing on the goal of increasing and expanding our membership via a membership campaign targeting new members and lapsed members.
  • Volunteer Programs: Coordinate and liaise with staff team to build programs around volunteer outreach and retention involving targeted areas of seniors (+55) and culturally diverse communities.

Programs Assistant

12 weeks, 35 hours a week, $14.25 per hour

This position is pending funding approval.

The Program Assistant will work with Latitude 53’s Executive Director and Program Coordinator on the smooth execution of enhanced outreach and programming initiatives in two interconnected areas:

  • Visualeyez: is Canada’s Annual Performance Art Festival and is founded and curated by Todd Janes. The Program Assistant will offer technical, administrative and programming support in a collaborative approach. This will afford the student opportunities to program and explore possibilities towards this festival occurring in mid September. The Program Assistant will assist the ED with logistical scheduling, problem solving, scheduling, artist relations, and other activities to provide a significant engagement with this contemporary arts festival.
  • Complementary Programming: With a focus on enhanced and expanded programming the Program Assistant will be responsible to develop/curate and activate two complementary programming activity during Latitude’s summer programs. These activities will afford a deeper engagement and complementary engagement focused on new gallery visitors and/or new Canadians.
