Leadership Update

The Board of Directors announces the departure of Todd Janes. He served the organization as executive director for more than 20 years, placing it amongst the most important artist-run centres in North America.

Latitude 53 has been at the heart of the Edmonton and Alberta arts community for close to five decades. It provides a non-coercive environment, assuring the freedom of the artist and giving the public access to new art forms. Latitude 53 supports the research and development of new artistic practices and concepts while encouraging experimentation by artists through its diverse programming.

In accordance with our strategic plan adopted in 2013, the Board of Directors looks forward to continuing to meet the dynamic needs of artists, members and supporters. To this end, we remain committed to empowering contemporary artists, fostering community and enhancing capacity. As arts organizations experience times of great challenge, the Board of Directors recognizes the outstanding contributions of the people of Latitude 53. Its success lies in its solid foundation – this would not have been possible without talented leadership.

The Board of Directors anticipates a great period of growth, change and success for Latitude 53. We are a uniquely qualified group of artists and professionals with expert skills in communications, fund development, operations, law, finance, governmental relations and human resources. Over the next few months, we are shifting to an operational board.

The gallery remains open, with exhibitions running as scheduled. Latitude 53 is fortunate to have a small but committed team who is capable and eager to keep the artist-run centre open for and accessible to the community.

During this transition period, it is our priority to find the best individual to lead, while still maintaining a stable and effective organization.

We look forward to working with you,

Latitude 53 Board of Directors
