D.I.Y is a fleeting moment that only chance could make happen. Intertwining Indigenous brilliance and skateboarding, we get to witness how casting judgement will get in the way of a real interaction. The piece shows the magic Indigenous people find within each other in urban spaces as well as how our past and present experiences inform the way we navigate the world. This is at its core a native skate film. D.I.Y is based on an encounter that happened to Taran at the same location the film was shot.
When ancestors pass away
Northern lights dance in the sky
Knowing it’s not really goodbye,
They’ve just passed over to the other side
The day the eagles die I’ll set my dream catcher aside
But until this day arrives,
I’ll stand with you side by side
