Acrylic paint, acrylic markers on dibond panels

When my Magushin saw the mural for the first time she said “it gives me chills.” I created this three panel mural painting to honour Two Spirit youth. My Magushin spoke about how a lot of our voices have been silenced and that we are still missing a lot of history. It is so special and meaningful to have my Magushin stand by me as I honour those voices. When I grew up I never saw anything like this. I never thought this could be me. That I could share these stories and perspectives. It’s important to me that this mural is rooted in ancestral knowledge and tradition. I hope that the strong statement of “Protect Two Spirit Youth” written on the banner in Stoney Nakota will give other Indigiqueer, Two Spirit and Trans people the light and hope they need. This mural includes the 7 grandmother colours, the transition of light and the transition of bodies. I placed medicine in the middle to invite and welcome the viewer to stand in the middle and pray.
