Accessing the Space

Latitude 53 is free to visit.

COVID POLICY

We at Latitude 53 are happy to be a mask-friendly environment. As we open our doors to the community, we highly recommend wearing a mask indoors to limit the spread of COVID-19 and work together to keep our space safe for our immunocompromised and disabled friends.  We will be equipped with 2 HEPA air purifiers in our pop-up location at the McLeod building, 10130 100 Street, and a limited capacity to help as well! We have masks and hand sanitizer available for guests near the front door. Latitude staff will wear masks during gallery visits regardless if a visitor chooses to wear a mask. While masks are not required, wearing one is appreciated after known exposure or known respiratory illness. If you are feeling under the weather, please stay home and take a COVID test if you are able.

ENTERING THE BUILDING

Latitude 53 is a single-level gallery, and not barrier-free. This is a temporary location and we are actively searching for a space better suited to our community’s needs.

Entrance notes:

  • A 3-inch tall step with a wooden ramp at the front door to enter the gallery.

  • The door is 3 feet wide, juts inward from the walls and could interfere with mobility devices.

  • Heavy pull door, swings outwards to the right – no automatic door opener.

  • The door handle is about 4 feet off the ground.

If you need assistance with the door, please call the gallery and a staff member will assist you: 780 423 5353

WASHROOMS

We have one gender-neutral washroom that is not physically accessible at the back of the building.

  • The washroom is located up two irregular-sized steps (21 cm and 37 cm in height). If comfortable, the staff are willing to lend a hand stepping up and down the stairs and lifting an empty mobility device up and down the stairs.

  • The washroom is a single-stall washroom with a locking doorknob (push-down handle).

  • The toilet seat is 43 cm high (17 inches), and there is a grab bar beside the toilet.

  • The sink is 93.5cm high (37 inches) with a shelf surrounding it.

  • For those using mobility devices that can go up the stairs, there should be enough space in the bathroom to allow for a fair turn radius on your devices.

  • There is a sharps bin in this washroom, which is also above the ground.

  • We offer complimentary sanitary napkins and tampons to visitors available in the washroom.

For those unable to access the washroom, we offer our sincere apologies. The Edmonton Public Library is located across the street and available for use (open 9 am to 9 pm daily).

ENGAGING WITH THE SPACE

There will always be seating available during regular hours in the gallery spaces.

Seating options include:

  • Short wooden benches (no back support),

  • Grey fabric and metal reinforced chairs at varying widths and weight capacity (400 pounds for the smaller chairs and 750 pounds for the wider chairs.

  • At this time (November 2023), we are not a fully fragrance-free space. We use fragrance-free soaps, hand sanitizer, and cleaning products from The Unscented Company, and discourage visitors from wearing perfumes and scents.

For Blind/low-vision/non-visual learners:

  • If you would like visual descriptions for the pieces in the gallery, please talk to a staff member and they will assist you. Most staff members have taken a workshop in visual description.

  • We are working on ways to integrate visual descriptions into the gallery space, both in-person and online.
