Latitude 53 is pleased to announce the opening of interdisciplinary artist, Bridget Moser's new exhibition, You Opened That Can Now Let's Eat the Whole Thing on Thursday, June 20 at 7 pm.
Join us at 8:30 pm on opening night for a special performance by Moser titled, What Will Stay You Alive, complete with her enthralling stage presence and existential humour.
Moser will be presenting a new body of work that was created during her residency at SPACES in Cleveland, Ohio. Moser tackles ideas of wellness, self-assurance and consumerism as they relate to a dying mall culture. Through her wacky and morph-able material choices, Moser raises the question of the validity of physical mall spaces as digital ‘malls’, such as Amazon, threaten the influence of traditional shopping with the convenience of at-home browsing. Showcasing her work for the first time in Edmonton, a city often defined by, or notorious for its mall, Moser considers the psychological implications of living in the shadow of a slowly-fading entity. However, at the center of her investigation lies an absurdist humour, in which a pink inflatable coffin provides her a suitable resting place from the complexities of contemporary life.
The exhibition will run from June 20- August 17, 2019.
