Schmoozy 2024: Mobiles – A Workshop on Balance with Elisabeth Belliveau

Join Elisabeth Belliveau for this Schmoozy exclusive Mobile-Making workshop, Tuesday, November 26, 6-9pm! 

Compose in space with forms and shapes.

Gentle sculpture, stories in motion, arms reach, freely in the air.
A brief overview of the kinetic practice of mobiles will be shared, highlighting artists who work with suspended sculpture in motion.
A hands-on demo on constructing armatures and balancing your own mobile will follow.

Tools and materials will be provided; everyone is encouraged to bring both 2D and 3D found objects, odd bits, and studio scraps.

About Elisabeth

Originally from Antigonish, NS, unceded territory of the Mi'kmaw people Belliveau holds a BFA from AU Arts and an MFA from Concordia University. She is currently based in Treaty Six, Amiskwacîwâskahikan, Edmonton AB, where she is an Associate Professor and Chair of Studio Arts at MacEwan University.

Belliveau’s art practice is rooted in the genre of still life and explores close watching through a feminist lens. Her moving image works include stop-motion animation, film, lenticular prints, and mobiles, alongside traditional and digital forms of sculpture. Belliveau’s recent exhibitions include Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Art Toronto, and the Louise et Reuben Cohen Gallery at the University of Moncton, as well as screenings at the Irish Film Institute and Studio 44 Stockholm. She recently returned from an artist residency at Arts Itoya in Japan and is completing a new graphic novel.
