Emily Storvold is a multidisciplinary artist based in amiskwacîwâskahikan. Her practice is largely abstract and colourful, using bright colours and playful forms as a way of luring folks into her work. Viewers may first see friendly shapes, but after a closer look, they will find themes of social anxiety, isolation (and togetherness), family trauma and the body. She works in a variety of mediums and is passionate about finding new forms to communicate her concepts. Storvold was part of the RBC Emerging Artist Project at the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts in 2021 and will be Artist in Residence at The Mitchell Art Gallery in Summer 2022.

About the Works

This series was inspired by the colour blue. I wanted to explore the depth of blue I could create by layering various forms and blobs.
