Hana Matsuzaki (2002) is an interdisciplinary emerging artist based in amiskwaciwâskahikan/Edmonton, who works primarily in painting and printmaking. Born in Japan and raised in Canada, she uses the duality of both cultures as inspiration for her works. Hana has graduated from the University of Alberta’s BFA program in art and design, with work displayed most recently (April 2024) in a group exhibition “Ground Level” at FAB Gallery in Edmonton, Alberta.
She can be seen using surrealist dreamscapes to focus on the idea of healing through the embrace of nature and animals. Exploring the tension between the anxieties we all share for our future and those that we share on a larger scale (such as the Anthropocene). Hana creates worlds in which humans and animals can coexist, merging and meshing in a state of mutual support and respect.
