Jacob Dutton is a Canadian painter whose practice explores memorialization, ritual and nostalgia. Drawing from found and personally photographed images, Dutton captures both everyday moments and curated scenes. His work examines the mechanics of irony and sincerity, and examines how meaning is shaped, distorted, or abstracted by the influence of spectacle and nostalgia. Through the use of brush and airbrush techniques, Dutton creates delicate softened edges and blended marks, giving his scenes a dreamlike quality that blurs the lines between reality and illusion.
