This piece was inspired by a Salvador Dali sculpture, titled Les Yeux Surréalistes. Kaylyn recently visited the Dali Museum in Montmartre, Paris where she saw this work for the first time. Kaylyn's piece is also influenced by the struggle between connection and personal barriers. Kaylyn’s work is an embroidered patch on denim, mounted on fabric. It was completed in October 2019.

Kaylyn Hardstaff (She/Her) is an Edmonton-born artist and graduate of MacEwan University's Fine Art Program. Her work is based on personal experience or train of thought. Kaylyn is heavily influenced by natural and unnatural patterns, plants, the body and the eye. Eyes observe and search. They look for you and look at you and are seen in unexpected spaces, often without acknowledgement.

Kaylyn’s research involves observing plants and patterns, allowing her to explore natural and urban landscapes for inspiration. Her work is heavily influenced by the unsettling imagery and fine detail of the surrealist movement. Forms in Kaylyn’s work may float in undefined space or overlap with each other to create depth, usually featuring line work in stitching or ink. Intricacy and meticulous detail makes her work unique yet tedious. Her work is sketchbook-driven and evolves from there into embroidery, painting and drawing.
